In 2023 the JTA Co-op Credit Union reinstated the Star Teacher of the Year Awards. This award programme is designed to honour one teacher who has done outstanding work in his/her’s school community. Last year the winner of the Star Teacher of the year was Erica Allen-Lennon. She is a teacher at Alpha Infant School and has been making a remarkable difference at that institution. When one meets Mrs. Allen-Lennon her enthusiasm for teaching shines through she is clearly someone who was born to teach.
Her energy and enthusiasm have led her to take on several initiatives over the years, she has taken on students with ADHD in her class and has devised ways to reach them with her lessons. Mrs. Allen-Lennon has led several fund-raising initiatives that have helped to raise the money needed to take on school improvement projects. She has also spearheaded environmental projects, such as the Fresh Air Garden, Gully Care and farming garden. All these initiatives have aided the students in their learning endeavors.
Mrs. Allen-Lennon is a sports coordinator the secretary for the Urban Knights Basketball Club, a past-president of Jessie Ripoll Primary and a published author. With over twenty years of experience Mrs. Allen-Lennon shows no signs of slowing down, she knows she has a lot more to give. The JTA Co-op Credit Union says a big congratulations to Mrs. Allen-Lennon our Star Teacher, continue to shine brightly.
